How to Ensure Your Gifts from Bamsedyra Arrive on Time
Christmas is the busiest time of year for Posten (the Norwegian postal service), and to ensure that Christmas cards, gifts, and packages arrive by Christmas Eve, I recommend sending them as early as possible. Here is an overview of Posten's official deadlines for 2025.
✉️ Letters and Small Packages
Within Norway
– Standard letters follow normal deadlines, but due to an exceptionally high volume of Christmas greetings, it is recommended to allow a few extra days.
– Norgespakke™ liten (within Southern or Northern Norway): December 18th
– Norgespakke™ liten (between Southern ↔ Northern Norway): December 16th
– Norgespakke™ liten to Svalbard: December 9th
To Other Countries
– Sweden & Denmark: December 15th
– Rest of the Nordic countries: December 12th
– Germany: December 12th
– Ukraine: December 5th
– Rest of Europe: December 10th
– USA & Canada: December 8th
– Rest of the World: December 5th
📦 Large Packages
Within Norway
– Norgespakke™ stor: December 16th
– Norgespakke™ stor to Svalbard: December 4th
– Norgespakke™ ekspress: December 22nd
To Other Countries
– Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden: December 12th
– Europe & Rest of the World:
Deadlines are determined in cooperation with each country's postal service and may vary. Transit time depends on the shipping method and the destination country.
Remember: Customs processing can add up to 2 extra days for international packages.
⚡ How Norgespakke™ Ekspress Works
When you really need a gift to arrive quickly, Norgespakke™ ekspress is the fastest option within Norway. In short:
- Delivery next business day to most places in Norway, often with delivery by 9:00 AM, 11:30 AM or 4:00 PM, depending on the postal code.
- Overnight: The package is sent express overnight, and the recipient receives the package at their door.
- Delivered to the door: The driver attempts to deliver the package to the recipient's home against a signature. If the recipient is not home, the package will be forwarded to a local pick-up point.
- Tracking all the way: The package can be tracked from drop-off to delivery, so you can follow it in the Posten app or on posten.no.
- Time guarantee: There is a time guarantee for Norgespakke™ ekspress – in case of delay, the shipping fee can be refunded, with the exception of delays caused by, for example, strikes, cancelled routes, or sender error.
- Size and weight:
- – Minimum: approx. 23 × 13 × 1 cm
- – Maximum: approx. 120 × 60 × 60 cm
- – Max weight: 35 kg
If the package ends up at a pick-up point instead of being delivered to the door, the usual pick-up deadline is 7 days, and the recipient can often extend this to 14 days via the Posten app or SMS.
🏬 Pick Up Christmas Gifts at Our Self-Service Store – Right Up Until December 24th
You don't always have to rely on the postal service – you can also pick up your gifts directly from me:
- You can select "Pick up in store" / local pickup option at checkout.
- The items will be picked and prepared at the self-service Bamsedyra store in Gjøvik.
- As soon as you have been notified that your order is ready for collection, you can drop by right up to and including December 24th to pick up your Christmas gifts.
- The self-service solution allows you to pick up at your convenience within the specified opening/self-service hours, without queues or stress.
This is the safest option if you are running late, or just want to be absolutely sure that your cuddly friends are ready for Christmas 🌟
🎁 A Little Piece of Advice in Closing
Even though the deadlines above are the official dates, I would always recommend to:
- Order gifts as early as possible,
- Choose Norgespakke™ ekspress if you are running late within Norway,
- Or pick up directly in store if you live near Gjøvik.
